MELBOURNE, 20 May 2024: ‘From the River To The Sea, Palestine will be free’ conflating with antisemitism was recently passed the Senate , with both the Labor and Liberal parties teaming up to support it, amid pro Palestinian rallies across Australia.

“The United Nations has published and credited third-party estimates of the number of those killed and injured in the war. Those include estimates that more than 34,900 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza and more than 1,200 people in Israel,” reports Time magazine.

And, UN News reports adds: Roughly, 800,000 people have roughly been displaced from Rafah since Israeli military operations from October 6,

The motion, which passed 56 votes to 12, with only the Australia Greens and Independent Senators Lidia Thorpe and David Pocock opposing it, states, “that the slogan ‘from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’ opposes Israel’s right to exist, and is frequently used by those who seek to intimidate Jewish Australians via acts of antisemitism.”

A statement by the Australian Palestinian Advocacy Network (APAN) says, ” Historically the slogan is associated with the Palestinian cause for self-determination and statehood.” And, ” It is disconcerting and disappointing that our political leaders are seemingly more engaged with, and concerned about, the alleged distress conveyed by lobby groups rather than the actual genocide which is being committed by Palestinians in Gaza and the prevention of humanitarian aid to them.”
