Aust.-India Business Engagement Roundtable discusses free trade deal

MELBOURNE, 12 April, 2023: An Australia-India Business Engagement Roundtable was today held at the Victorian Parliament. The roundtable, attended by about 15 participants and four MPs had a briefing and lively interaction on the recently signed free trade deal between Australia and India. The deal removed most tariffs on goods being exported and imported. Those who attended included Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Tim Watts MP, Cassandra Fernando MP, Lisa Singh CEO Australia India Institute and Joanne Ryne MP among others from the Diaspora.

There is no official release as to what transpired at the roundtable, but a Tweet by Tim Watts MP says, ” The Indian-Australian diaspora is the key to unlocking the full potential of the and economic relationship, a message reinforced today at the Australia-India Business Engagement Roundtable. Our bilateral relationship is at a high point, but there is much more we can do.”

Senator Penny Wong Tweeted, “Corporate leaders, professionals and entrepreneurs play a vital role in growing Australia’s relationship with India.

Today, and I held a roundtable in Melbourne to discuss how we can help promote greater understanding and deeper ties.”

In another Tweet the Australia India Institute said, ” Our CEO joined business leaders, professionals and entrepreneurs today for a Roundtable in Melbourne  hosted by Ministers Tim Watt MP and Senator Wong to discuss how we can help promote better understanding and business engagement.”
