MELBOURNE, 3 February, 2025: Despite the temperature soaring, the ambience at the tennis court area at the Royal Thai Honorary Consulate, Toorak, with guests all over gave a cool message of celebration.
The occasion was the 72nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Thailand and a tribute to the 6th Cycle of His Royal Highness Maha Vajiralongkorn, with the Parliamentary Friends of the Kingdom of Thailand, established recently to foster better understanding and relations between the two countries.
All around quests thronged to the Thai Marketplace – an assortment of displays and stalls with paintings, food art, traditional food, beer, soft drinks and wines. Thye stalls included those of the Ethical Trade Alliance, Beer Chang, Dip art, Tea for Three, Korowan Fashions, Thai language school and Tangola.
Highlights of the evening was ‘The Rum Wong’, traditional Thai dance by three dancers and Muay Thai demonstration.
Men and women in colourful traditional Thai dresses were all around, and people of other nationalities, faiths and communities had a good experience of Thai culture and hospitality.
Her Excellency Ms Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand in her opening speech explained the importance of the day and the deep cordial relations between Thailand and Australia. Others who addressed the gathering were David Hogett MP, Chair, The Parliamentary Friendship Group with Thailand and Vicki Ward MP, The Parliamentary Friendship Group with Thailand among others. Tessa Sullivam, Hon. Consul of Thailand, gave the concluding speech.
The event concluded with blessings by monks of the Buddha Bodhivana Monastery, Warburton East, Victoria.
