MELBOURNE, October 16, 2021: Vishal Jood, an Indian student in Sydney released after six months imprisonment on parole on 15 October 2021, has been deported. Hon. Alex Hawke MP, Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services, and Multicultural Affairs, in a media statement today, said, ” “Following his release from custody, the Australian Government immediately assisted an Indian national to depart Australia on the first available flight to India. The man was an unlawful non-citizen at the time of his arrest.”
In a strongly-worded statement emailed to SAT, the Minister said, ” “The Morrison Government takes very seriously its responsibility to protect Australians from non-citizens who engage in criminal conduct. We will always act decisively to protect our community.
“Attempts to undermine Australia’s social cohesion will not be tolerated.
“I am pleased that this unfortunate event has seen our resilient local Hindu and Sikh communities unite. In particular, I want to thank community leaders who have worked hard to support their communities in the face of these unfortunate events. Their efforts to build cross-community unity and resilience against the attempts by a small minority to incite discord and disharmony have demonstrated the importance and benefit of our nation’s strong social cohesion.”
Vishal Jood was arrested by the NSW police in a case connected to incidents, the then NSW police media release said, on 16 September 2020 and 28 February 2021 in which there was an attack on a man and a group of people were attacked respectively. There was another incident on 14 February 2021, a man driving a Range Rover was attacked. The incidents were probed by the Parramatta Police Area Command and later charges were laid against Vishal Jood.
Later under plea bargain some charges were withdrawn against him and was convicted for 12 months imprisonment and paroled after six months and deported from the Villawood Immigration Detention Centre.
