MELBOURNE, 29 October 2022: People of South Asian origin today celebrated their unity and cultures at a lively festival, held at the Mulgrave Community Centre, organised by the Australia South Asia Society (ASAS).
A book exhibition, a multicultural fashion show, a Nepali dance, a Sri Lankan dance, one Tamil solo song, a Singalese solo song recital, and Bollywood dances graced the occasion.
Speeches by Dr. Chidambaram Srinivasan and Mr. Arvind Srivastava added to the consolidating multicultural ethos of Australia and Victoria. The issues of multicultural communities and their social, economic, and political participation in mainstream Australia came up as important points. The speakers praised ASAS for organising an event to bring together South Asian migrants on one stage.
There were bouts of laughter as comedian Ateev Dang talked about many light moments in life and society as a standup comedian. The idea of having a comedian at a South Asian event, was unique and appreciated.
