MELBOURNE, 15 April 2023: Indian and other Buddhists from across Melbourne today remembered Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s contribution to the upliftment of the downtrodden people and as the father of the Indian Constitution. The occasion was his 132nd birth anniversary.
Dhammacharini Carunetra welcomed the guests and Chairperson of the Melbourne Buddhist Centre Dh. Dh Viryasiddhi. detailed the three refuge and five precepts to the audience. The noble teachings of Buddha with inspiration from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar reverberated the Centre. Others who addressed the gathering were Mr. Shiv Kumar, Indian Consulate
Viv Nguyen, Chairperson, Victorian Multicultural Commission. Viv Nguyen expressed happiness at Dr. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary and said she was learning about the man who is revered so much. Mr. Shiv Kumar paid tribute to Dr. Ambedkar and praised the celebration of his birth anniversary.
Dr. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary also known as Ambedkar Jayanti was to honour the man who dedicated his life to the uplifting of the oppressed and marginized sections of society. His teachings continue to inspire to strive for equality and respect for all humans, was the message of the day.
