Kanguva :Suriya & Bobby Deol blend ancient valour & modern-day courage

MELBOURNE, 9 November, 2024: Suriya, who plays a dual role in ‘Kanguva’,  upcoming Indian Tamil-language epic fantasy action film (also in Hindi) answering to question by Shriram Iyer, South Asia Times (SAT), in a zoom media conference about his dual role said,  rather than having 13 distinct looks, he portrays two characters spanning vastly different timelines—one set 700 years in the past and another in the present. He described drawing from personal experiences to deliver authentic emotions, despite the historical setting.

Suriya was joined by Bobby Deol who is in the movie as the main antagonist. Both shared insights into their roles and the film’s unique themes, Shriram Iyer (SAT), expressed  excitement about the on-screen collaboration.

Kanguva, directed by Siva, is the epic saga of ‘Kanguva‘, where ancient valour meets modern-day courage. A tribal warrior’s fierce struggle to save his people a millennium ago is mysteriously linked to a shadow cop’s perilous quest in the present. This gripping emotional tale of heroism across time promises heart-pounding action and a mystery that defies the ages.

Bobby Deol, spoke about the challenge of embodying a barbaric character, praising Siva’s visionary direction.

Both the actors emphasised the rigorous physical and mental preparation involved, including action sequences that required intense training and elaborate prosthetics.

The film, presented as a pan-Indian project, reflects a growing trend in Indian cinema to unify audiences across languages and regions. Suriya and Deol noted how OTT platforms have expanded global exposure to Indian films, setting Kanguva up to attract an international audience.
